Sunlight carries a lot of energy. When it reaches plants, water, and soil, this energy turns into useful products. However, when it reaches roads, cars, or buildings, the energy only degrades the materials and generates heat that is most the time undesirable, such as the heat in your car.

Solar panels solve this problem by converting sunlight into electricity, which can later be used at homes, offices, and even cars. This way, the undesirable heat is avoided and useful electricity is generated, which would otherwise be produced from fossil fuels. Think about it: each kWh produced by solar energy can eliminate 1 pound of carbon dioxide emissions, while there is a potential of going 500 GW of solar around the world.  That is 500 million pounds of carbon dioxide per hour!
