SMA Sunnyboy Inverters

The Sunny Boy is the most successful solar inverter for grid connected PV-plants. There are plenty of good reasons for this. SMA has successfully been developing and manufacturing systems for energy conversion in railway applications and for industry for over two decades. This outstanding know-how is the basis for the Sunny Boy inverter.

Features: Components designed for 20 year performance, waterproof and dust resistant enclosure made of aluminum and stainless steel, outstanding ratings and reputation, 10 year warranty

Inverter Size Selection:

The inverter size is selected based on the power and voltage output of the panel array.  The power output of the array is the system size and is calculated as follows:

(system size) = (number of panels) x (power per panel)

The following could be used as a general guideline for inverter selection based on system size:

System size  2.0 - 3.0 kw  3.0 - 3.7 kw 3.7 - 5.0 kw 5.0 - 6.2 kw 6.2 - 7.5 kw 7.5 - 8.7 kw

The calculation of the voltage output of the system is a little tricky, becuase the voltage output of each panel increases with decreasing temperature.  The max voltage output depends factors like lowest temperature observed in the region, voltage temp coefficient, and no. of panels in series.  SMA has a very useful tool that does all those calculations for you.  Just click on the button below and input the information:
